It’s holiday travel time. While there are many more urgent and critical problems in today’s world, here’s an idea around airline travel that in a small way just might lighten the load.
This is a huge frustration of mine, but I feel the issue would be better dealt with by enforcing the size of carry-on luggage at the gate and eliminating the 'personal item' which is often the size of an additional carry-on. I often travel with camera equipment that I wouldn't want to check, but I have a carry-on bag that meets size requirements.
I have been advocating for this forever. The flight attendants have as well. ( My sister. was a FA for 37 years. )The airlines will never do it. No idea why but they refuse to consider.
That's an interesting idea! One reason why airlines don't do that is probably to discourage people from carrying too much weight with them.
Heavier baggage = more fuel consumption = higher operating costs.
Though I agree that some people end up packing more stuff in a carry-on than they would in a checked in baggage 🤨
